WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1996 by Martha Weathers Brown, Voices in the Laurel seeks to help children develop healthy singing habits through rehearsals which focus on teamwork and leadership, and by introducing choristers to the history, culture, and language of the music they sing.

We strive to push the boundaries of typical musical education by teaching not only sound musical principles and musical excellence, but by also learning foundational lessons in discipline, leadership, team work, and good citizenship. We encourage exposure to music from many cultures and languages, including but certainly not limited to French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swahili, Yiddish, Romanian, Cherokee, and more.

We have an established record of performing with local, regional, and international groups, as well as some celebrities. Over the years we have performed with such notable names as:​

• UNC Asheville Choir

• Blue Ridge Orchestra

• Haywood Community Chorus​

We also maintain regular relationships with and participate in yearly performances at the Biltmore Estate's yearly Candlelight Christmas Evenings, and we sing the National Anthem at a least one Atlanta Braves game every year.​
